Super TET is the examination that actually gives an assistant teacher post in Uttar Pradesh — UPTET only makes you eligible to sit it. And it works differently from most recruitment papers in one important way: the written score is not the whole merit. A share of the final merit has come from your past academic record — Class 10, Class 12, graduation and the teacher training qualification. That means marksheets earned years ago still count, and two candidates with the same written score can finish far apart. This guide covers the merit formula, the paper, eligibility and how to prepare.

Key Points (Quick Revision)

  • Recruitment examination for assistant teacher posts in Uttar Pradesh basic schools.
  • UPTET or CTET is a prerequisite — you cannot apply without it.
  • The paper has generally carried 150 questions for 150 marks.
  • Academic record carries weight in the final merit alongside the written score.
  • The qualifying mark has generally been higher than in an eligibility test.
  • This is a recruitment, not an eligibility test — it produces a merit list and postings.

The merit formula — why old marksheets matter

This is the feature that sets Super TET apart, and it changes what a candidate should optimise.

In the selection used for assistant teacher recruitment, the final merit has been built from two parts: the Super TET written score and a weightage for academic qualifications. The academic component has drawn on Class 10, Class 12, graduation and the teacher training qualification, each contributing a share.

Three consequences follow, and each one surprises candidates.

A strong written score does not guarantee selection. A candidate with modest academic marks needs a higher written score than one with a strong record to reach the same position.

The academic part cannot be improved. Unlike the written paper, it is fixed. What you can control is accuracy in the one component still open to you, which is why every mark in the written paper matters more than it appears.

Your marksheets must match what you enter exactly. Percentages are verified, and a mismatch between the figure entered online and the certificate produced is a common ground for rejection at verification. Enter the figures exactly as printed, and keep all four certificates ready before the application window opens.

The exact split between the written score and the academic weightage, and how each qualification is counted, are set out in the recruitment advertisement and have been revised between cycles. Read that clause in the current advertisement rather than relying on a formula quoted elsewhere.

The paper and what it covers

The examination has generally carried 150 questions for 150 marks, and its subject spread is wider than an eligibility test, because it is testing a working teacher rather than a minimum standard.

The areas that have appeared in published patterns include:

AreaWhat it covers
HindiGrammar, vocabulary, comprehension — the largest single block
EnglishGrammar, usage and comprehension
MathematicsArithmetic at primary-teaching level
ScienceBasic science relevant to primary classes
Environment and Social StudiesEnvironmental studies and elementary social science
Teaching MethodsPedagogy and classroom method
Management and AptitudeSchool management and teaching aptitude
ReasoningGeneral mental ability
General Knowledge and Current AffairsIncluding a Uttar Pradesh layer
Information TechnologyBasic computer awareness

Two blocks deserve attention because they do not appear in UPTET at all. Management and Aptitude and Information Technology are specific to this paper, and candidates who prepared only for the eligibility test meet them for the first time here.

Hindi carries the most questions, which is consistent with the job. It is a finite, learnable syllabus and the most reliable block in the paper.

The question distribution across these areas, the duration and the negative marking provision are stated in each advertisement and have varied, so take the exact table from the current one.

Eligibility — three things you need before applying

Super TET has a stacked eligibility requirement, and all of it must be complete before the application closes.

RequirementWhat is asked for
Teacher eligibilityUPTET or CTET qualified — the certificate must be in hand
ProfessionalD.El.Ed or BTC, or an equivalent recognised elementary teacher training course
AcademicGraduation with the prescribed percentage
AgeGenerally from 21 years, with the upper limit and relaxations set under state rules

A pending result does not count. Candidates awaiting a UPTET or CTET result cannot apply, which is why the sequencing matters — clear the eligibility test first, then wait for the recruitment cycle.

Either UPTET or CTET works. A candidate who cleared CTET does not separately need UPTET for this recruitment, though the state layer in the paper still has to be prepared.

Because the qualification list, the accepted training courses and the age table are restated in each advertisement and have been revised, read those clauses in the current advertisement rather than relying on an older account. A B.Ed alone has been treated differently from D.El.Ed at the primary level across cycles, and that position has been litigated, so check it if it applies to you.

A preparation plan for Super TET

  • Give Hindi the largest single block of time. It carries the most questions, the syllabus is finite, and it is the most reliable place to bank marks.
  • Prepare Management, Aptitude and Information Technology separately. These do not appear in UPTET at all, so candidates coming straight from the eligibility test have never studied them. Each is small and quickly built.
  • Build the Uttar Pradesh layer as its own subject — state history, geography, schemes and the education system. It sits inside General Knowledge and it is where the spread between candidates appears.
  • Reuse your pedagogy notes. Teaching methods here overlap directly with the child development and pedagogy you prepared for UPTET or CTET.
  • Verify your academic percentages before applying, since a share of the merit rests on them and a mismatch at verification costs the post.
  • Practise full 150-question papers under time, because the subject spread is wide and switching between ten areas costs more time than candidates expect.

Candidates on this route should first see UPTET, which is the prerequisite, and CTET, which also qualifies. For comparison, REET follows the same eligibility-then-recruitment pattern in Rajasthan, and DSSSB PRT shows the Delhi route. For General Studies preparation, see the Crazy GkTrick course catalogue.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between UPTET and Super TET?

UPTET is an eligibility test that gives you a certificate. Super TET is the recruitment examination that gives an assistant teacher post. You cannot appear for Super TET without holding UPTET or CTET.

Is the Super TET written score the whole merit?

No. The final merit has combined the written score with weightage for your past academic record, drawn from Class 10, Class 12, graduation and the teacher training qualification. The exact split is set out in the recruitment advertisement.

Can I appear for Super TET with CTET instead of UPTET?

Yes. Either qualifies you to apply. You will still need to prepare the Uttar Pradesh layer in the paper, since the General Knowledge section carries state content that CTET does not cover.

Which sections in Super TET are not in UPTET?

Management and Aptitude, and Information Technology. Candidates coming straight from the eligibility test meet both for the first time here. Each is small and quickly built, which makes them cheap marks.

Can I apply if my UPTET result is awaited?

No. The qualification must be complete and in hand on the closing date. A pending result does not count, which is why the eligibility test has to be cleared in an earlier cycle.

Which section carries the most questions in Super TET?

Hindi has carried the largest single block in the published patterns, which is consistent with the job. It is a finite, learnable syllabus and the most reliable place to bank marks in the paper.
