G20 and BRICS – Notes with PYQs

The G20 was born out of the Asian financial crisis of 1997-98. In 1999, finance ministers and central bank governors of major economies began meeting every year.

The G20 has no permanent secretariat. The country holding the presidency runs it for one year. It works with a troika - the previous, current and next presidencies.
