TS TET is the Telangana State Teacher Eligibility Test. It is held by the Department of School Education, Government of Telangana. Passing it makes a candidate eligible to teach in government and private schools of the state from class 1 to class 8.

There are two papers. Paper 1 is for teachers of classes 1 to 5, and Paper 2 is for classes 6 to 8. The TET gives eligibility only; teachers are recruited through a separate Teacher Recruitment Test (TRT), where the TET score also carries weight.

Key takeaways
  • Paper 1 is for classes 1-5 and Paper 2 for classes 6-8.
  • Each paper has 150 one-mark questions in two and a half hours, with no negative marking.
  • TET certificates now have lifetime validity.
  • Dates, mode and qualifying marks are fixed in each notice - confirm them in the current TS TET notification.

Qualifying marks

CategoryMinimum marks (recent cycles)
General60% (90 out of 150)
BC50% (75 out of 150)
SC, ST and persons with disabilities40% (60 out of 150)

A candidate can take the TET again to improve the score, which helps in recruitment. Confirm the qualifying marks in the current notice.

Language I and medium

Language I is usually the language in which the candidate wants to teach, or is most comfortable. Options have included Telugu, Urdu, Hindi and some other languages listed in the bulletin. Language II is English for all.

Pick Language I carefully. In recruitment, posts are often filled by medium of instruction, such as Telugu-medium or Urdu-medium schools, so your TET language should match the medium in which you hope to teach.

The question paper itself is usually given in English and Telugu, or English and Urdu, as stated in the notice.

TET weightage in recruitment

Teachers for Telangana government schools are recruited through the Teacher Recruitment Test (TRT), also known as the DSC exam. In this recruitment, the TET score has been given a weightage of 20%, and the TRT written exam the remaining 80%.

So a higher TET score directly improves the final rank. This is why many candidates take the TET more than once, even after passing it.

Validity and frequency

  • Following NCTE's decision, TET certificates now have lifetime validity instead of seven years.
  • In recent years, the state has held the TET more than once a year at times, so watch for both summer and winter notices.
  • Recent sessions have been held as computer-based tests over several days. The mode is stated in each notice.

How to apply

  1. Read the information bulletin on the official TS TET website.
  2. Pay the fee online. The fee is different for one paper and for both papers.
  3. Fill the application, choose the paper or papers, Language I and the Paper 2 option.
  4. Upload your photograph and signature and choose an exam district.
  5. Download the hall ticket before the exam and check all details.

Keep a printout of the filled application and fee receipt. Corrections are allowed only in a short window, if at all.

Results and certificate

  • A preliminary answer key is released after the exam, and candidates can raise objections within a set time.
  • The final key and result follow, with the marks of each candidate.
  • Qualified candidates can download the TET marks memo / certificate, which is needed when applying for the TRT.

Save a copy of the certificate safely, since it is valid for life and will be asked for in every recruitment.

Documents to keep ready

  • Class 10 certificate for date of birth.
  • Marksheets of Class 12, graduation and B.Ed (or D.El.Ed), year-wise where asked.
  • Caste, EWS, non-creamy layer or disability certificate in the format given in the notice, where relevant.
  • Photo identity proof, recent photographs and a signature scan for the online form.

Make sure your name and date of birth match across all documents. Mismatches cause trouble at verification.

Syllabus focus

Child Development and Pedagogy. Growth and development, theories of learning (Piaget, Vygotsky, Kohlberg), inclusive education, motivation, assessment and the Right to Education Act.

Languages. Comprehension, grammar and the pedagogy of language teaching - listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

Mathematics and EVS / Science / Social Studies. Content from the Telangana state school textbooks of the relevant classes, along with the pedagogy of each subject.

Telangana-specific content in EVS and social studies - the state's history, festivals, rivers and government - appears often, so read the state textbooks rather than only NCERT.

A simple study plan

PhaseFocus
Weeks 1-3Child development and pedagogy theory, with short notes on each thinker
Weeks 4-7Languages and the subject sections from state textbooks
Weeks 8-9Subject pedagogy and topic tests
Weeks 10-12Full mocks every two days and previous TS TET papers

Keep a fixed daily slot for pedagogy throughout, since it is common to both papers.

How to prepare

Use state textbooks. The content sections follow Telangana school books. Read them chapter by chapter and mark key facts.

Practise previous papers. TS TET and the older AP TET papers show the style of pedagogy questions well.

Attempt every question. With no negative marking, never leave a question blank.

Exam-day plan. Start with the section you know best, mark doubtful questions, and use the last fifteen minutes to answer all marked ones.

Common mistakes

  1. Choosing the wrong Paper 2 option. Match it to your subject.
  2. Studying only content and ignoring pedagogy, which decides many scores.
  3. Using only NCERT instead of state textbooks.
  4. Stopping at the pass mark. A higher score helps in the TRT.
  5. Using an old pattern. Follow the latest notice.
